And I just can't make heads or tails of it. I mean, I know Othello & Desmonda eloped and her father was furious. I know reading the cover of the book, LOL that its all about jealousy, etc. and how it ends... but it just isn't "clicking" and making any sense to me. All that ole King James English, ugh...... I didn't think it would be much of a problem, since I'm real familiar with the King James version of the bible...but I'm finding this to be MUCH more difficult. :(

well :D
sorry I just have to laugh I did Othello for my exam in july and truth to tell I never finished reading it why dont you try the lambs tale version first or as a referance pointr to the story to keep things in perspective or just watch the newest film and read along. though I suppose that is cheating , unless you consider it a play therefore meant to be seen not read.
actually thats true if you watch it enough times eventually its easier to read and understand ...good luck : :thumbs_up
Modern English version's unavailable?

of Othello wouldnt that defeat the object/ make it boring????
I agree, Kat, that much of Shakespeare's material (along with that of his contemporaries) can get to quite challenge to understand - the odd pronunciations, altered spelling, inverted sentences, and very poetic similes and metaphors.
If I may suggest, I recommend looking here (http://www.sparknotes.com/shakespeare/othello/), SparkNotes.com's notes on Shakespeare's Othello. With any additional questions, I have no doubt many members here, among myself, can help.
Good luck! ;)

OK I gave up on Othello, and started reading MacBeth instead. :p I'm finding it significantly easier to follow. :p Also, in my quest for understanding, I discovered Cliff Notes ~ online! :p That's been helping me as I read, helps to clarify some things that aren't quite so clear.
