Alexandre Dumas Writing techniques....??

can anyone tell me what are the techniques used by alexandre dumas to emphasize his characters in The Three Musketeers???

There are a couple of typical ones, but don't hold me to this because I haven't read it in a while. Symbolisms typical, but more obvious is dialogue and the way the characters act. (For instance, milady's obvious two-facedness, and d'artagnon's daring, even to the point of making stupid mistakes). look at the way the other characters respond to them. just look at parts of the book and think back to what you thought of the characters when you first read it and why.
