Hello,
Let me first excuse myself for my English, should I make grammar and/or spellingmistakes. I am a Dutch student and am in my last year of high school. For English, I have to read 2 books this year: literature.
Last year, I read Jane Eyre: I liked it, but I would like to read works that are more recent. For example, written after 1970. Does anyone have ideas or tips for me? Titles of books that I could read for school? Thanks very much!
Ellen

20th century :
Hunter S. Thompson - Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
J.D. Salinger - The Catcher in the Rye
Philip K. Dick - Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep
George Orwell - 1984
Harper Lee - To Kill a Mockingbird
Ernest Hemingway - A Farewell to Arms
Bret Easton Ellis - Laws of Attraction
Hello, Ellen. Do not worry about your English, warning us for any mistakes, because it looks perfect.
For something fairly recent, such as in the last 35 years, try literature by John Updike (good ethical, almost spiritual, books), and the same for Joyce Carol Oates; Toni Morrison and Maya Angelou wrote a lot of literature since that time very worth reading; and depending on your taste in literature, you could try some works by Kurt Vonnegut.
Good luck! ;)

Both are very good reads and quite recent.

Eco's Name of the Rose, Martell's Life of Pi, are just some from many..and can't argue Mono's pick on Vonnegut :)
