Hi!!
I was re-reading the story and felt like knowing how is "darse cuenta" as the autor uses it in the book in English. So I opened a e-book in english and started seraching. As I couldn't find any paragraph that starts with "Meantime tthe first mate", I searched the previous one. then I realized that in the e-book it startds "Meantime, the chief mate". SO could you tell me which version is wrong?
The spanish or english one?

thank you very much

I think that is the, "Meantime the first mate," is correct. the first mate could be anything but 'fors styrman'.
It's an old rank on board a ship, the chief mate is correct.
