View Full Version : Rising and Falling

Paper yellows
And ink fades
And words are not words
As knowledge mellows
And peoples promenade.
Money's value rises
And money's value falls
As nations rise and fall
And coins are not coins
As wars are waged and won.

A heart rises.
A heart falls.
As cell gives way to cell
From day to day
The heart knows well
That only in the loins
Are hearts redone.

But a heart is a heart
As long as it's a heart
Not in the body
But in the mind.

And the value of the heart
As thoughts and hearts are passed
From children to children
To children's children
Repeats itself unchanging
And beats a lasting monument to love
In the intangible of aging.
