What was quasimodo named after?
I am listening to this beautiful beautiful story read aloud, unabridged on tape
moved to tears.

Quasimodo literally means "half-formed" in...Spanish, I think it is. Which is a pretty good description of him. ;)
I read it some time ago, and was extremely excrutiated that it didn't all end happily ever after...I had seen the Disney version and was quite unprepared for a masterpiece of such depth and...tragedy. I especially liked the chapter with the cracked crystal vase and the uncracked clay vase...when Esmerelda preferred the "pretty" one...
Brilliant book, ranks among my favourites.

I have also heard that he was called Quasimodo because he was found on Quasimodo Sunday. And I believe Quasimodo is Latin (you were close though, lol), which makes sense, because the man who found him was a priest.

There you go! I was wondering why "half-formed" translated into something entirely different in Spanish...but "quasi" at least in Italian means "almost", and "modo" to me sounds kind of Spanish, but I think you're right - it'll be Latin.
Fancy calling anybody a name like that, though! Not very flattering, really...at least it's original.

what is quasimodo sunday?
In Catholicism, Quasimodo Sunday (or Low Sunday) occurs the first Sunday after Easter, celebrating the newly baptized "neophytes" and humankind's rejuvenation through Resurrection.

What surprised me the most was how different the character of Phoebus was. In the movie he was a strong and noble character, and in the book, he was both selfish and indifferent. Even when Esmeralda was being executed for Phoebus's murder and he saw her, he didn't bother to tell anyone that he was indeed alive.

I wasn't terribly fond of Esmeralda; I thought she was a bit of a ditz, and a bee-yach.
