I did a quick google.com search and found that the characters Dai Brainbocs and Frankie Mephisto (adapted from the character Mephistopheles in Goethe's Faust and Marlowe's Dr. Faustus) from The Unbearable Lightness of Being in Aberystwyth by Malcolm Pryce.
