they are
bananas,
vanilla ice cream
caramel and fudge topping.
maraschino cherries,
whipped cream.

sticky glorious
sweetness melding,
coated with nuts
(but no, i am not the nut),
they feed off of each other
know the latest movies
songs
slang, jokes.

i head to russia
via tolstoy's carriage
or david king's
haha even thoreau's
jail cell
when i can't
relate or understand
the fascination
with microbraiding
or the fantastic four.
maybe it's because
i'ma i'ma i'ma not a hustler.*

i haven't the
appreciation for
desert heat
that they claim for
their ancestry, though
some of us share those
same bloodlines; i prefer
the bitter north
where i first breathed and
the upper latitudes
where i have
lived my whole life,
not where my forebears
might have dwelt.

perhaps i lack appreciation
or cohesiveness but
when living in
summer's sauna
it serves no function
to recall a time
when your mother's
mRNA was housed
in drier climes.

they melt and giggle
these chums in the
ice cream parlor
and i smile from my
harbor, my shrubbery.

cranberries aren't often
found on ice cream
sundaes.

<Sigh>...yeah, I soooo know what ya mean...I never quite "got it", either. You know what, though? We've got the advantage in many ways. Aye, 'tis true! Trust what these well-heeled, world-weary bones are sayin', amuse. Just for starters, 'tis more spiritually satisfying to be one of us, than it is to be one of them....and that's just for starters.

I like your poem...it's delicious! ;)

I'm off...I've got to attend a meeting between Alexander the Great, and the top mucky-mucks of Athens, regarding negotiating a new trade treaty.

I hope your day improves!

C ya!

Very nice - an unpredictable and humorous beginning that catches the reader's attention immediately, followed by a more warm moral that, as often in your poetry, speaks loudly without extremes. This shows much of the racing of thoughts, observations, and norms in everyday society that often goes unnoticed, but, as the most talented writers do, you brought them into the limelight, and sculpted some very interesting verses.
*edit* - for a moment, I tried narrowing down my favorite lines, but found myself quoting nearly the whole poem. :p
Well done!
