are you able to free your books?
N E V E R !
Strange how someone should mention this project. In my city (Portland, Oregon), I have noticed more and more books placed in odd places - on top of newspaper stands, on public benches (wrapped in plastic, in case of rain), and on coffeehouse and teahouse tables, abandoned. Whether they seem for this purpose or not, well, with the increasing incidence, I imagine, at least, some of the occurrence have affiliation with this.
Thanks for the thread, chispa.

Here in Israel, everything wrapped and left abandoned is immediately considered a suspicious object; seriously. Though, no one actually heard of this fashion over here, and if they did, it would've been Hebraic books only - so no bookcrossing for me.

Well, this is just altruistic , I would not release my treasured books either , but sometimes you may have two copies of some books or others that are not so interesting or useful for you that you may share or give to others that cannot afford to buy books or need entertaining.....
Well yes...I'd be able to give out only books I didnt like or I dont want anymore for some reason... but not the ones I love... generousness has never been my strongest point...
How ironic that someone should make this thread just days before something similar to me occurred.
I did this with no intention, but I once owned two copies of Homer's The Odyssey, and I paged through one of them at one of my favorite parks, looking for a specific passage. Finally, I got frustrated and set it aside, received a phone call to meet someone fairly soon, and (stupid me!) I forgot my book! Since I still remained in the area, I went back hours later, realizing my mistake, and discovered it gone.
Hence, I have officially (and unintentionally) retired an epic book. Oh well, I still have another copy. :D

you captured the universal energy about people releasing books and did that carried by that uncouncious desire.......
