it is home
to any of us
who have ever
read dickens,
or bronte, or
austen.

it was home
to thousands of
john company
employees
in india
though they'd
departed
ages ago.

there is no place
like it.

it is where time
begins.

it is
home to my
friends,
my birthplace
home
to my heart.

...we use
"artery"
lightly when
talking of highways
and byways

but it is no
light thing,
this coronary
vessel,
nor this
damage to
the world's aorta.

may it never be damaged again.

Whew! This has to seem one of your best. I could not respond when reading it initially, but felt like reading it a few times over, let the analogies soak in, as this particular poem seems also one of your heaviest (seldom a bad thing). The concluding two strophes really reach deep into me:

...we use
"artery"
lightly when
talking of highways
and byways

but it is no
light thing,
this coronary
vessel,
nor this
damage to
the world's aorta.
The last line, to give my full opinion, I at first felt a little skeptical about, but it sounds better with it than without it, concluding with, in a way, a moral.
Wow, impressive work. While typing this message, I keep browsing up and down the poem in amazement - truly a work of art!
