My Darling Pierre
Voyna i mir (1865–69; War and Peace) contains three kinds of
material—a historical account of the Napoleonic wars (which
it seems u must not be very interested in),
the biographies of fictional characters ( which in your opinion
u do not give a rats *** about),
and a set of essays about the philosophy of history (which caused
leo into controversy yet made him and his ideas revolutional for which
he was much disliked and thus isolated in his time but he earnestly
stuck to his thoughts and knowledge).
with all the educational qualifications u have earned ( i
wonder why u mentioned them?)
u must know that books are meant to be READ!!!! right?
and frankly u dont need a degree to tell a great book from a
detailed study of a farce(' the Da Vinci Code')
u see it's very simple, some people love Britney Spears and
some love Pearl Jam.
this book is the best in the world and in history...its size does
discourage you like it did to me...
this books is so immensely educational and the characters so real
the daredevil Dolokhov and the playboy like Anatole, the confused
yet sincere Pierre, the gorgeous yet stupid Helene, the life loving
Natasha, the simple and decent
Nicholas, the pious Mary and my favourite (i fell in love with him)
the honest, proud, cynical and very intelligent Prince Andrew
Bolkonsky who's death is regarded as one of the most effective
scenes in Russian literature.
The essays in War and Peace, which begin in the second half of the
book, satirize all attempts to formulate general laws of history
and reject the ill-considered assumptions supporting all historical
narratives. This is what makes u think and change or reconsider your
opinion about the so called "GREAT PERSONALITIES' of the world.
If u havent read that, youve missed out on something very important
significant in the history of mankind.....believe me...
Not Entertaining???......like Kutuzov says (or Tolstoy)
' Everything comes in time to him who knows how to wait."...
the battle of Austerlitz and Borodino
couldn't have been described in a more realistic way...without
bias and without glamourizing it...raw and real. and u have as I
can see no knowledge of military or warfare at all.
Ofcourse your entitled to your opinion....(its what makes us human)
u have made yours and i have chosen to waste a lil time to make
mine...But if u want "JUST" entertainment this book aint for you
because its a lot more than that..
and seeing by the quantity of books uve read i dont understand
what puts u in a position to comment!?
I pity u for not reading it!!!(READING!!! thats what books are for)
