View Full Version : The most beautiful thing said to you

I have often wondered what is the most beautiful thing anyone has ever said to me. I heard it tonight. I was on the bus on my way home from work, and a girl that works at the old folk home too, was there. I sat next to her and we started talking. I told her how I plan to go to London in the fall to see museums, galleries, gravestones and homes of some of the authors I admire. I showed her the tattoo I got last week and how it symbolizes Shakespeare.
she said: I wish I was like you are.
For a few moments I felt good, she wanted to be like ME. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enimy... I wanted to write this down before it became to simple to think about.
Now I am curious, what is the most beautiful thing anyone has ever said to you guys?.....

"I love you" and "I wish I was as pretty as you."
When I was 16 and I was on one of those horrible church-groups trips that helped so much in destroying my interest on people, one of the older guys (the ones who were responsible for us youngsters) told me I'm strange. We were iceskating and we skated together and he just told me that I was strange (not meaning anything mean) and unlike the others. And I was like wow...so I really am like that! I barely knew him and he had a gf so I couldnt even vaguely think he could have any sort of interest on me (well even if he didnt have a gf...), it was just a funny talk.
Since then, the word 'strange' is the compliment I prefer, since I can't be called beautiful and praises to any of my intellectual abilities never sound fully honest, they seem to be made just to please me.
Btw, I used to have a full list of 'worst things that can be said to a person', maybe we should start a thread...:D

Someone once recited this to me:
I'll want you till the seasons lose their mystery
I'll need you till the birds forget to fly
I'll love you more than anyone in history
Wherever there's a wherefore you're the why
It's a few lines from a song by Ian Dury. That, in the end, this ended up not being so true doesn't negate the feeling I had at the time those words were spoken. It was a lovely thing to say to someone.

I dont recall anyone ever saying anything "beautiful" to me. I dont think people say beautiful things to guys normally, and anyone who knows me fully understands my desire not to be complimented.

The last time someone said something really beautiful to me was probably last Friday when our conductor (of the SBS Youth Orchestra) asked me if I was interested in going on the European Tour later this year. I had only been with the orchestra two weeks; it was like a dream come true. We're going to Prague, Karlsbad, Bratislava, Budapest, and Vienna. Five concerts in two weeks, visiting conservatoriums and opera houses...it's going to be great! I feel honoured to be asked, only about half of us are going. :)

I can think of many beautiful stuff but the ones that are the most special are:
"I'm happy I met you"
"Like a needle needs a vein I need your love" (a part of a U2 song)

Wow, Miss Darcy! What a great trip! It really is "dream come true" stuff. When you get to Budapest give my regards -- I'll get there one day! :)
Congratulations, Miss Darcy - very impressive!
Since this thread began, I started thinking of all of the beautiful and not-so-beautiful things people have said to me, and I would have to restrict it to, not what someone said, but what she wrote. I would love to share the poem, though brief, absolutely saturated with sublimity, but I would have to ask Psyche if she thought it acceptable to share her work. :D

Strangely enough.. during one of our fights over breaking up my (now) ex-boyfriend said something wonderful to me. Despite the fact that he is in love with someone else now.. he reacted very vehemently when I suggested that maybe it would have been better if we had never met: "I would never have wanted to miss the 10 years I spent with you. You are special and I will always cherish the memory."
And my sister once said when I came home crying..thinking no-one liked me "Bianca, you are like a good wine. Not everyone can appreciate you, but that does not mean you have to change."
Gheghe.. but like some of the others here I could probably think off a whole lot of comments "worst things people have ever said to you".
Congrats, Miss Darcy!! You must have made quite an impression in so short a time!
And Kilted Exile, I think you are right - beautiful things are probably said most often to women... Lucky us ;-)
Cool that you are going to Londen, Helga! Could you describe the tattoo for me? Because I have no idea what to think about if you have a tattoo symbolizing Shakespeare. Sounds great.

Orignally The only thing I could think of is when Momo said in the person above me thread that I made him smile. That made me really happy so I guess that counts right?
But then I remembered Last day of school I gave a little speechy thing problem is I am terrifed of crowds and there was 300 odd students not to metion teachers and othe staff crowded in the hall. But I got up and said my part and everyone laughed in all the right spots and the wrong bits too and later I took my year book to the Do we were havingg and along with drunken ramblings I have in it this is some of the things that was written that I think are some of the lovliest things people have ever said to me
"you go girl"
"Your speach was ace"
"Im well proud of you"
" I dont really know you and have never spoken to you but I always see you and you always seem to be enjoying your life and carrying around tons of books and I hope you will always continue to enjoy your life!"

I'm glad so many of you are taking part in this thread. I could write a book about bad things said to me but I prefer to remember the good ones.
before this girl said this to me the most beautiful thing I had been told was when I was talking to a friend of mine. I met him at the local cafe and he started talking to me because I smoke a pipe. later I was babbling about boys never liking me and something like that and he said 'hey I started talking to you' and I said 'that was because of the pipe' he said 'maybe that was just a way to open up a converstation'. these few words made me so happy because it made me think that the reason why some (few) boys talk to me dosen't have to be because they think I'm weird.
and by the way, I'm very happy for you miss darcy!!!! :D

 Shake-speare.. ah, that is truly cool. Do you smoke a pipe, Helga? Oeh, I just love it when people have something that distuingishes them (ehm, hard word to spell..not 'them' of course ;) ).
About wonderful things being said to me: once a boy said to me "I do not think you are a Bianca.. you look more like an Annouchka to me." I have no idea whether he meant it as a compliment or not. He never explained his comment... but as it so happens I love the name Annouchka.. and I always picture a strong, interesting person when I hear that name. So I was truly moved.

i was at a pink floyd concert, and was "grooving" to one of my favourite songs, when a completely random girl detaches herself from her boyfriend, clambers towards me through the masses of people, prods me and shouts over the music "tu es tres joli!" and then walked back giving me a smile... i was strangely touched by that...
once my teacher told my dear concerned mother not to worry, with her daughter, only positive things would transpire, and that phrase has always stuck with me...
Helga
07-07-2005, 08:03 AM
what does tu es tres joli! mean?
that means 'you're cute/nice(in the physical sense)/pretty' in French... I think it's not just about being beautiful but charming as well...after all it can be said of places too...

i have a new one recently my daughter told me "mommy you're the best" somehow what she thinks of me is all that matters to me. people can compliment all day long but the only one that matters to me is my daughter's. I guess its because I didnt have any real parents growing up and to know that I am doing a good job is great.

Last year when I was waiting for the result of my writing exam, and got a good mark on it, my teatcher told me this: "I advise you to read more." I know that it looks strange that this is the most beautiful thing said to me. But I still remember those words for they helped me a lot in my studies.

I realize the question of this thread regards the nicest thing anyone ever said to me. However, I cannot help but think of the documentary/tribute to the late Peter Jennings which I saw recently. One newscaster who worked for him, related an anecdote about how meticulous Peter Jennings was with each and every news story, editing it heavily. But once, only once, this newscaster handed him a story, and Peter Jennings handed it back and said, "This is fine, run it just as it is" (with no corretions). The newscaster held back tears as he related this. Peter Jennings was a legend, and I guess, when a legend tells you, just once, that you are "O.K.", well, that is very special.

One time when I was much younger, I impressed my older sister by repeating some fact--some fact she did not think someone my age would have known--and she complimented me. I responded, "Hey, I'm not as dumb as I look, you know."
"No," my sister agreed, "Nobody could be that dumb."

One of the most amazing people I've ever known wrote me a poem once, and in it he said:
"For I'd give up anything just to hear her smile, and I do hear it when she smiles...sad though it may be, it's all worth it, just to hear her say...I love you."
Not a lot that can top that for me.

The most beautiful that someone said to me was probably one time when I was playing with this cute little plushy rabbit-like thing on the bus. All of a sudden, someone near me said: "You are freaky". I know he didn't mean it as a compliment but it made me feel really happy :D
The next best thing is my smallest sister tells me all the time: "You're the bestest sister in the world"- I know that she's trying to get something from me.... but still

I grew up in a world of negativity and violence so compliments were few and far between. It wasn't until I moved away from my family that anything nice was ever said.
The most beautiful thing ever said to me was from my husband.
Ti Amo Mucho!! Siempre Mi Amor, siempre contigo!! Will you marry me?
(I love you very much! Forever my love, forever with you!) I believe is how it is translated.
I have since been told more beautiful things but that day was the most beautiful in my life!!!

It would be nice if it came in a honest way, I was travling to a far place, and there was a girl who was setting next to me, I'm a person who like to talk and she's that kind of person too, we talked...I didn't liked her, she's alright but not someone that I would like to be a freind to, anyway...we were in far places...and when I was about to go off the bus after saying good byes to each other, she bind over and said to me "I loved you from the moment I saw you." I smiled to her and got off the bus, she wan't honest when she said it to me, many people tell beautiful things, but I don't care about that as much as I care about things that are said by people I love and care about,
The beautiful things dose matter when they come out of a mouth, on a honest way, weather they were from someone colse, or strang to you...

It wasn't really the most beautiful thing. It was only something really nice, which I don't often hear from a stranger.
Yesterday, when I wanted to get down from a bus, a guy was standing on my way. I said to him, "excuse me, I want to get down". He was looking at me, but didn't give any response to my request. So, I said excuse me again, twice. Still, he was only looking at me without moving an inch. Then an old lady behind, who wanted to get down also, shouted at him, and told him to give us a way. Then, he finally moved and said to me, "I'm sorry, but I was amazed as I just saw someone beautiful". Hearing that, I just smiled, got down, and didn't look back.

One of my best friends wrote me an email yesterday... I haven't seen him since May and we were seperated very quickly during Hurricane Katrina. He is an amazing person and he wrote me this in his letter what he thought of me. It seriously made me smile and cry at the same time and the fact that it came from such a wonderful person like him made it all the more beautiful to hear because I truely admire him This is what part of it said:
"You’re incredible (does this make sense so far? : )
)… you really overwhelm me… you even give me goose bumps
sometimes!
I would say I covet the
relationship you have with God! I’m constantly in awe of
how obviously taken over by His love you are in your life…
your sincere compassion for everyone, the selflessness of
your thought process… jumping at a chance to brighten my
day, anyone’s day, asking questions and giving “hey, I
was listening from the bottom of my heart” responses…
responses that are so obviously the words of God, Himself
speaking through you…
being the first to comment at a meeting, driving
EVERYONE out to dinner or offering to do anything u can
for a friend in mourning…. you really have a grip on
what’s truly important in this life… and the set-backs
that hinder most people who more or less know what’s
important do not disturb you… it’s really a beautiful
thing to witness from the outside in, I wish you could sit
in my seat and see it all unfold so you knew exactly what I
mean and how amazing you are…"

... well, I guess the most beautiful thing ever said to me was said just a few hours ago by my mother. She said that she thinks, I can be a really good journalist(well, writer) and photographer.(Because she regarded some of my photos this evening) And that just made me soooo happy because she has never said that before, not like that, and it's really important for me to know what my family(okay, mostly my mother) thinks.
I believe, this is the most beautiful thing ever said to me because before it would have been something like " I love you" but I know I'm loved by my family and although, that's a pretty beautiful thing to hear, what she said today made me more happy than I think I've ever been before.

I was living with a woman. Her little girl (6 years old at the time) asked me if she could tell her school friends that I was her daddy.........such innocence, such longing, such a simple human need to belong, to be like others......
.....most of the beautiful things people have said to me had a beauty emanating from a rawness of humanity, glimpses of a naked 'self' shared........... a beautiful, priceless, somewhat wanton connections. I've experienced this many times and cherish the reality of fundamental needs marking us as interconnected...........hug someone today...

Well, one day she was telling me about a conversation she was having with her husband, in which he asked the hypothetical question, "Who would you miss if we had to move?"

I noticed a couple young posters felt the most beautiful thing ever said to them was that they were strange or weird.
When I was their age, that would have been an insult. In my high school the coolest guys acted strange/weird because they considered themselves rebels (like James Dean). But anyone who called them strange/weird to their face was gambling with his teeth.
Now many young people enjoy being described as strange/weird, but I wonder if they really think of themselves as rebels or act rebellious in their daily lives. Or is it a facade to set themselves apart without risking ostracism?
I don't know. All I know is the more things change, the more they stay insane.

nice things are always said to guys it seems, and some of the things that have been said to me have been great.
i met this girl on holiday called Lisa, and she was the prettiest girl i had ever met, ever. it was asthough i fell in love with her in 1 week. we had many 'moments' but she didnt want anyone else on our holiday to know that we were having 'moments' so it was all secret and amazing, we were holding hands under the table, literally.
when we first kissed, the day before we left each other, we spent the whole night together, and she told me, "you make me feel as though i was born for a reason, and that reason was to be here with you tonight."
i felt amazing, and still do.

Once I was on a trip with my high school band. It was my sophomore year, and the boy who had become by best friend in the world was there. We were going to see The Blue Man Group and this kid -- now one of my best friends but not then -- kept asking for me to move and give him my seat. I had told him no like... a billion times but he kept poking at me. I was still a pretty quiet one then and soon I had people yelling at me to move, and others to stay where I was.
I finally moved and started crying because of all the picking and pressure and I was a teenager who had spent four days nonstop in a big city she wasn´t used to. I hid behind my program and ended up seating next to my best friend. Well, when he saw how upset I was he stood up and started at the kid who made me move -- he was way bigger and stronger than my friend --
I begged him to stop because I wanted no attention brought to me, but he was so disturbed and angered for me.
It´s amazing when someone is hurt because you are.
Anyway, that might be the best thing. He ended up moving across the country a few years ago. I´m still devastated.

"I breathe because you breathe."
Something like that.
Not the most beautiful, but one of. The most meaningful and beautiful hit me smack right in the heart (and eyelids, for that matter) are the messages from my mom. She tells us,
"I'm lucky to have you as my children."
If you knew what we've been through, you'd be touched too.

"I do".
Those two words still ring clear in my ears and have been locked in my heart.
Those two words made me feel emotions like I'd never felt before nor ever will(who knows).
We're divorced now, but those two words....

Will expressions count? I dont remember a genuine compliment. Am I that bad? Anyhow....
It was in my college, and it was the festival time. During this time different colleges from the university are invited to take part in competitions, every college has a festival of their own and they do the same thing.
So, it was a debate I was participating in, I had prepared very well, but when I went on to the dais and looked up, there were sooo many people and I got nervous, I began forgetting many things I had to say, I looked around and of all the people there was this guy who looked at me with genuine interest in what I had to say. He gave me this very encouraging look, like "Yes, its going fine and you can do it,' and that pulled me through that presentation. I never had a chance to talk to that person, he was from a different college. Surprisingly, after all this time, I still remember that look. He must have been good at heart. :)

One of my very close friends was having a hard time and I was there supporting him and helping him through it. One lazy afternoon I asked him if he would like to go on a picnic to get his mind off things. he said he would love to. I met him at the park and as we sat and gazed at the lake he suddenly says to me " You have no idea what you mean to me or what you have done for me... You are the only person who has been there for me through this hard time... You are my truest friend." I swear I wanted to cry. It was the most touching thing anyone has said to me. I have been thanked by my friends many times for being supportive but not one has ever expressed their thanks so beautifully and sincerely as he did that day. We are still the best of friends! :)

A fortnight ago, we were involved in a car accident. My mum ws driving, my grandma was in the front passenger seat, and I was in the back. It was the usual scenario... young guy racing along the road to meet his girlfriend etc. It was a bad crash, but me and the other driver were fine, and I knew that the only reason that we hadn't all died was that my mum had been able to minimise the damage to mine and my grandma's side of the car. Anyway, my grandma broke her neck, and was rushed to hospital by helicopter, but should be ok... shel'll have to stay in hospital for at least 3 months though... 2 days later, when mum had been discharged from hospital, my aunt picked us up and we went to see my grandma. She was in a really bad state, but when she saw me, she said, "It's lucky that it was me that was hurt and not you or your mum... at least you're all right". When she said that, I wanted to cry, because it made me realise how lucky I am to have family like that who love me. It was the most beautiful, selfless thing that anyone has ever said to me.
:bawling: that's set me off again crying now!

Yes, this was something which gave me a sense of importance, and made me feel very good. But here is a very beautiful saying which even crosses it:
"Read Harry Potter. Read Harry Potter!"
From my brother...One of the sweetest..

"You've got to be the sweetest friend and the most beautiful friend around,"
that was said by my Korean friend Sung Ju, when I told him that my parrot's kept calling me ugly. It made me feel very flattered.

"Ringer."
At a piping competition when I told a bagpiper I really look up to what grade I was competing in. He meant I was competing too low, which wasn't true but it meant a lot to me :)
"No offence, but you look plastic...like your face looks like a magazine cover." -my friend Teri. That cracked me up but I suppose it was a compliment, coming from her.
And most importantly and recently, when one of my closest friends said that out of all his friends, near and far away, I was the one he would consider his best friend, and that he hoped his sister would be like me someday. It made me feel so good inside, as I've always thought I had nothing to offer him, since I look up to him so much.
A lot of other things, especially from my dad, but that's what I can remember off the top of my head.

someone was bestowing native american names (or indian names like runs with scissors etc whichever you prefer) upon everyone who happened to be standing around in the hall and I was named "lonesome deer."
I liked it because it was true.

'In the Lord of the Rings, you'd be an elf."
I love LOTR elves, especially Galadriel. I was really honored by that because I think I'm like an elf in some ways, but for someone else to feel that way too!:p

he he -- my friends played that game with me. At the time I hadn't read LOTR and was struggling through The Hobbitt (and hadn't really made it past the first chapter at that point) and they told me I'd be an orc

An orc? No way. Judging from your profile, you're a hobbit. Pleased to meet you. LOTR is definitely in my favorites!

Maybe not the most beautiful, because I can't seem to remember the exact way that one was said, but one I like a lot is: "You are smart and crazy." This came from my archenemy at the time, which is saying a lot, because he acknowledged that a) I am smart, even by his standards (he's really dang smart) and b) I'm different than most, and I took (take) it as a compliment.

After a period of very low esteem, I was playing the saxophone, and since the reed was old and slightly broken it sounded horrible... anyway, the next day I found a beautifully carved card upon which it said "To Sunniva, From Jarl: I love you, and your music."
That was so uplifting...
I can also refer to my signature, once when I was travelling, a letter someone I secretly loved said:
"When I think of you, an implossion happens in my stomach." That was very thrilling, i don't think anyone has imploded on my behalf before... :)

Awwh :)
Well, people have said nice things to me before.
But the things that have truly meant the most to me came from my boyfriend :)
He once said - 'You are the most important thing in my life, and for that I thank you, as you have kept me going from day to day,' And I thought that was such a nice thing to say!
