Hi guys!
What's the idiom when someone loses his way back/origin? I'm toiling on this for a while now.. and it's for my book (too many people write books nowadays eh?). So if you can help me you'll be a big aid!

I found it with a little research. It's to "lose one's bearings".

You could mean that the person has burned his bridges. Or perhaps the person has become isolated or stranded or marooned or lost. The exact term might hinge on how or why the person can't return.
