i found this forum by googlin typee because i recently was informing someone about melville having visited these cannibals in the south seas, and mentioned that he reported on a society very different than what exists now.

no property, theft, crime...utopia of sorts.

the person i was explaining this to scoffed and called me a fool.

anyone know whether his anthropological take on culture in the south seas was accurate? with a grain of salt, i believe what he says.

i was also thrilled yesterday when my little town newspaper had an editorial on robert anton wilson, and fnords, conspiracies.

anyway, now that i've found this space......i shall post and respond

Hi,

I haven't read Typee myself but an analysis is available at http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/typee/, which might be helpful.

Welcome to the Forum! :)

How rare to come across a fellow fan of Robert Anton Wilson. I have read only little of his work, including Quantam Psychology, and, hopefully soon, Schrodinger's Cat, but my girlfriend, another forum member, Psyche, voraciously reads all of his work.
Welcome to the forum. :)

Hello bloggod, a very interesting topic, I've never heard of this before either but it doesn't surprise me much, what with all the travels Melville had in his work on ships and staying in Polynesia.

Thanks for the link Scher :)
