is "big brother" a syononym for illuminati? or are the two interrelated in any way? we think it means goverment surveillance but we're not sure. any help would be appreciated. :-?

The illuminati does not exist. Any reference to bigfoot would be as laughable.

this is a usual response from someone who hasnt even listened or researched anything into the illuminati, which in fact goes back thousands of years.but oh well..

First off, a wise move would be to discount anything to do with the "illuminati" since it's no more than a fantasy. Please do check out some serious websites which will point this out to you. I think it's also important that you should know that the illuminati fantasy is spread by people with an anti-semitic agenda - i.e. people who for some reason hate Jews. Given the atrocities committed on the Jews during WWII (and since), I think Jews have more problems than how to control the world's financial industry and could be left out of this stuff. If you do check around, you'll find that most people who support the illuminati fantasy also generally believe the Holocaust was a fake, which is just beyond crazy.

Secondly, BB is exactly what Orwell intended him to be - the face of the Party, the ruling body in 1984. Government surveillance is definitely a part of it, because the Party is the government and controls the population through total surveillance. Orwell would not have written about the illuminati, even if the conspiracy belief has existed in his day - which it didn't.

You need to realise that the book is fiction. Orwell was not predicting our future, but warning against a possible future. While some disturbing things happen nowadays and surveillance cameras spread, we are in no way headed for the type of rule as shown in 1984.
