I need a one size fits all philosophy book(s). I have Modern Library's basic writings of Kant, Nietzche, and Aristotle, but these are very, complex. While some of it's great and cool, most of it is a total bore and some parts I haven't the slighest clue of what they are talking about. I'm looking for something that's more friendly that will gave me a nice basic to intermediate understanding of the world's best philospher's, what they wrote of (their famous writings) and a critique/understanding of what they were talking about.

I was looking at Philosophy for Dummies, but are there any others?

Might try Will Durant.

I would also recommend any books by Joseph Campbell, Paul Woodruff, Leonard Shlain, and James Carse.
Only these brilliant authors come to mind immediately, but I will post again if I have any more ideas.
Good luck! :)

I read this book as a teenager, itīs a mixture between fiction and facts . It is a friendly introduction to philosophy in the shape of a young womans journey :
Sophie's World: A Novel about the History of Philosophy (1991) by Jostein Gaarder

Here is a small summary from ffbooks.co.uk : Sophie finds two questions in her mailbox: "Who are you?" and "Where does the world come from?" This is the start of her journey through the history of philosophy, guided by a mysterious mentor. To find the truth, we must understand the questions, but the truth is stranger than Sophie can imagine.

Try Bertrand Russell's History of Western Philosophy. An excellent introduction to the subject. You might also look into Roger Scruton's Modern Philosophy: A Survey, although I'm not a great fan of Scruton myself, this book is worth reading.
