Villette

Villette isn't necessarily a happy book, but Charlotte Bronte wrote it extremely well, and the characters seem real, perhaps because of their lack of perfection in life. Villette is a very good read if you don't require delight at every turn.

Indeed, a very good book.. but then: I love e-ve-ry-thing of the Brontes. Even the works of Anna Bronte can definitely hold my attention. I am just sorry that nothing of Patrick Bronte (that was the brother, right? Or am I mistaking his name for that of his father?) has survived. I think it is fascinating that three sisters can write well and each have a different style. Been wondering whether the brother was talented also.

I think that from Charlottes novels, Vilette is my favourite. I agre that the end is not exactly happy...
Yes, it was Patrick (they also called him Branwell after their mother). I was wondering if anyone heard that Emily wrote another novel apart from Wuthering Heights, which was not published, becouse after her death, Charlotte burnt it, or something like this...I got this information somewhere, but Im not sure if its true...

There's a novel called Daphne which looks at Daphne Du Maurier's attempts to reveal Branwell as being a talented writer.
