virus from web site

This is one of the few web sites I ever visit.... I got a virus... I don't know where I got it.... Anyone else experiance difficulties? Once again, I have no idea where I got it... so don't freak out.

You didn't get a virus from this site.

You likely got the Blaster worm -- it can infect just about any Win2k or WinXP system by you just being online.

This worm doesn't do anything malicious -- other than take over your computer on the 16th of the month to do an attack on Microsoft.

You need to keep your computer patched by running Windows Update.

However since hundreds of thousands of people are trying to get patched right now I doubt Windows Update is working very well. Plus the worm is supposed to prevent you from updating.

To fix it... then run Windows Update ASAP and get patches. You should run it once a month and get critical updates (the rest is optional) -- but don't bother trying on the 16th (its going down for sure).

Thanks... but this virus kicks me off every 10 or so minutes when I am online....

A message screen will pop up and tell me to save everything because windows will be restarting in 60 seconds.... it only happens when I am online.

I am confused.... are you sure that is all the worm does?

Well then you might not have that worm.

In anycase I can tell you you didn't get anything from this site.

You might have a trojan or something else. You need some Anti-Virus software.

You can get it simply be being online? Hmmm I dunno, I leave my machine on for long stretches at a time, and I have not gotten this latest virus, which, I think you're referring to is the `Blaster' or `Sobig' virus.

Blaster and SoBig are different.

SoBig spreads through email, is a virus.

Blaster is a worm that spreads itself through scanning random IP addresses looking for vulnerable Windows systems.

Apparently they caught the guy today who had created the virus I thought I had.
