Whenever somebody thinks they have figured out what is going on in the novel, it is just another turn of the screw. So what can people really come up with that would summon up what is going on in the novel? Is it really just about sexual nature and a form of psychology to get people worked up over the novel? Well maybe that is just your conclusion. I do strongly believe that Henry James hasn't brought out a couple of specific endings that is presented somewhere in the background of the book, which just so happens to irritate the mind and make people go crazy while they peruse through the novel. The book is only a cunundrum with no answer! Hey, whoever says that Henry James is even the one who is putting the novel in peoples heads with all those generalizations and such. Quite truly, people are the ones making up their own stories to follow, not Henry James. This masterpiece of a novel has been brought up in a very intricate fashion by a very brilliant and talented writer who likes to play on peoples heads. So perhaps the real question here is not what the story seems to be about, but rather why did you choose to pick the events going on in the "story?" Who knows right? Just maybe this response was another turn of the screw.
