This is a perfect book. Isabel's development, shown glowingly by James's narrative style, is beautiful and heartbreaking to watch. There is not one superfluous character in the book, and I think anyone willing to plow through 600+ pages of difficult prose will find himself happy he did. The importance and beauty of this book should not be understated.
