"Portrait" is loosely a more sophisticated version of "The Catcher in the Rye". The main reason most kids like Salinger more is because he is easier to read. But if they gave Joyce a little more effort, I bet they could identify with Stephen Dedalus just as much. Just don't go killing any Beatles!
