I think that the book is quite interesting and confusing one too, because it deals with stream of consciousness. Moreover, Joyce seems to be inspired by Byron in the begining of the novel, which depicts his rebellious nature but afterwards when he depicts Stephen developing as an artist, he seems to be inspired by John Keats, so sort of realization and association with the concept of truth which he has found in beauty and hence become an artist.
