This was my first novel of Joyce and it was quite an experience the way the author opens before us the mind of Stephan Dedalus, the main character who is trapped between his catholic upbringing and his human weakness for sin.
Sexuality is seen through the eyes of his catholic upbringing and hence his feelings of guilt thereof.
But he emerges finally as an artist who discovers that beauty is "statis" and kinetic as lust or dictates are.
A wonderfully enriching book for anyone who cares about the dicovery of our artistic eye.
A Must Read
