I think the message of this book is to keep on standing up and be strong, even if apparently you have nothing to fight for. Even if he fails as a lover, even if he loses the dearest person to him, Paul doesn't give up. The introspection is the most original part of the novel. I also haven't read before a novel which presents every character's perspective of the action.
