I have finished reading the book just a few hours ago, and was shocked by its end. In any way I thought it would end another way. I think that's because I'm an unexperienced and immature reader!!! We see the element of suspense in different parts, especially when related with Clara and Miriam. But that the protoganist, Paul, couldn't win the girl was only because of how his mother had acted toward him? Then why didn't this happen to Annie or William?? Ofcourse if the mother could have a better relationship with her husband she wouldn't devote all her love to his sons, and hold them so tightly their enmotions nd their lives. In any way, in the end Paul defeats his being depressed and goes to light instead of drowning in darkness!!!<br>ps:my mother tongue is not English and im just a student of English literature so I found some parts difficult to read!
