CAN'T believe mother's love can be so powerful yet so selfish. when i read this novel i just wondered why paul became so restless, helpless and sulky,he was so talented in drawing,later i knew he was a in control of his mother's love,he just lived for his mother's sake.Mrs morel's love (if it is love) for his son absolutely distorted paul's love for women.when he was with mirriam,he had a feeling that mirriam would confine him in her pocket by her intensive love,which would smother him.he just evaded,not only from mirriam,but his mother.so when his mother was stricken with cancer,he felt he would be free from his mother's love.but he couldn't be free.
