i donnot know the real result of tess' death ,but i think the main reason should lay in the black side of the society.Although alec made a mistake on tess(a rape happened on tess) , his attitude towards other women had been changed after that ,and he still wanted the love of tess.This may approve that his soul (or his artribution )lurked behind his apprearence evoked hid consience .or wo may say that tess was his first blockstone on his road of life .so his death became a only result (killed by his beloved woman ).after all.alec was the evil of the society .his death is the choice of the people and also the reader of the book,the jugement of history,
