Tess of D'Urbevilles is indeed a great work & no doubt the best of Hardy. The novel is not only a tragic masterpiece but has its beautiful mushy moments also when Angel & Tess are together. Readers can't help feeling for poor Tess inspite of what has been termed by Hardy as her 'impure self'.
The way her plight has been put into words is poignant to the core. The settings of the finale of the novel is simply fantastic & may not have many parallels in literature.
Overall Tess of D'Urbevilles is a novel that once read can never be forgotten.
