I ummm just finished reading Tess, out of choice not school, but it is simply just amazing. Hardy manages to superbly create a protaganist who against convention is not perfect but someone you can really relate to, her feelings became mine as I got further engrossed in the book till the point I couldn't put it down. Hardy just made me pour myself into Tess, her life and her heart, and no other book has ever left me so depressingly sad at the end. He geniously manages to mix beautiful, evocative even, decription of the landscapes so as you are lmost there, with heart-raking emotion that leaves you drained at the end. The emotion in that book is just so raw and pure, and although at the beginning it is a little hard to get into, by the end you're left wondering how you finished it in a couple of days, willingly putting aside such things as eating!!!!
Those of you who say it is the worst book you've even read cannot fully appreciate true poetry or a true love story...I would even compare it to Romeo and Juliet, the idea of tragic love is just so bitter-sweet...
I will never forget this book or the immense unbelievable unconceivable effect it had upon me....

Ally

P.s. those who are reading it now, bear with it.....it will leave you stunned for words...althought I do appreciate the point of how over analysing it can ruin it and reading it for school may ruin its effect but try reading it out of school afterwards and you'll see its worth....

Yes, I like this book very much also. It's one of those works where we can find Hardy's strong crtitiques towards the Victorian society. If you like it, I suggest you to read Jude The Obscure. I'm sure you'll love it also :thumbs_up
