What do you mean you can't grasp the concept of the book?, is one of the most interesting books out there, It gives the concept of how a "PERFECT SOCIETY" isn't really perfect, and how technology isn't just a way of helping us, but also a way to destroy us...(think about it!!)
It is not hard to undarstand, I am only a freshman and I understand every little bit of it..yes, the lenguage is a bit high, but that's why there are many books to help you whith it, for example..."dictionary"..

How can this book be hard to grasp. We are reading it for my English class and some other people have said it is difficult to undersatnd as well. I don't see whats so difficult. It is not a hard read in my opinion and very interesting at that. I completely agree Sara, use a dictionary if you can't understand it. It isn't exactly Shakepeare, Huxley speaks and writes quite well in this Book.

basically, Huxley is explaining to us the disadvantages of technology's affect on a society. Especially if it is overly dependant on it. Re: my reply to the book on the BNW pg.
Ok, it's a cool subject, but you're not enjoying it? That seems a bit contradictory to me. Maybe you're just stupid. I've read this book three times, the first of which when I was 14, and I never had any trouble with it. But you are right about one thing: it is a cool subject, and is a well written opinion on the matter. Pick up a dictionary, take your time, and figure it out. It opened alot of doors to me; maybe it will help you see the world in a different way. And who knows? Maybe you'll become literate, and maybe learn to spell.

You all have impeccable writing skills.

I particularly enjoy Paco Paco Paco's misspelling of the word "concept".

I do so pity Me for his/her phobia of punctuation, and suggest professional help to counter that fear.

Sara, a dictionary is a wonderful thing indeed. It can help you to spell "language", and "understand".

I would like to ask Karen (note the question mark), "Who is Shakepeare?". Also, Karen, I do not understand "undersatnd", and what's "whats"?

To Chelsea, I merely offer that you consider capitalizing the first word in all your sentences, and that you rethink your pronouns.

John's entry, I'm afraid, also includes some interesting mistakes. I find this ironic, that John condemns Paco Paco Paco for the very same things that he himself fails on. Perhaps, John, you should get togeather with Chelsea to work on assinging subjects to your pronouns. I believe, John, that because "14" is such a small number (unlike 257,894,442), it should be spelled out, as such: fourteen. I am not sure that "Maybe you're just stupid." is a very nice thing for you to say, especially when you go on to write, "It opened alot of doors to me." instead of the more appropriate, "...for me." In addition, John, if you were to pay more attention to your own mistakes, maybe you too would learn to spell. I've noticed that you have trouble with those hard words, such as "a lot".

Note: This is by no means an attempt to be mean. It's all in good fun. Just try to stop depending on spell/grammer checks so much. Now, wouldn't it be funny if I spelled something wrong?

Hey Nitpicky,
I do believe that "grammer" is actually spelled "grammar." Seeing as how you did spell something wrong, I am inclined to laugh.

Question to Nitpicky: Don't you have anything better to do with your life?

You already did spell something wrong, it's 'together' not 'togeather'!
If you are going to make fun of other people, make sure you don't make mistakes while doing it. Don't contradict yourself!
Im sorry that im lowering myself to your level but come on.... do the grammatical imperfections of people you dont even know really matter that much to you?
(by the way, you spelt together wrong!) but thats not the point. These people simply are writing to put across their views... not to have an english lesson. Who cares about punctuation in a simple message? Im a very intelligent girl but i dont waste my time adding simple punctuation unnecessarily when im in a rush.
Maybe these kids have a life and aren't concerned with those sorts of things? Just lighten up!
I just stumbled across this while I was bored - looking at Brave New World's info. I did not have to read this book in school. I came into the public school (where it was required reading for Grade 9 Humanities) at tenth grade from a private school. However, I read it anyway. I am a fan of Orwell's "Animal Farm," and of "This Perfect Day" as well, though not as many people seem to have heard of it.

Anyway. Regarding nitpicky - they very well could have put in those typos on purpose. How about we all just ignore he/she/it? That would make it that much less likely that they'll do it again. However, I will say that in many cases I would agree with Nitpicky that better grammar and spelling makes writing much, much easier to read - but this isn't the sort of place to be picky about it. The fact is, you can't really trace things back to people anyway. It's easier, of course, if it's someone like me, who tends to ramble a lot, since you could get an idea about what I usually ramble about, but, hey, what can I do, right? There's no point in correcting people's grammar here. You just have to hope that their teachers do better later.

Moving along... Kat, do you think the world will end before you get your punctuation in? It's better to get in the habit of putting it in automatically, so that way you don't have to go to the trouble of fixing it all when you have to do stuff, say, for school.

REALLY moving along now - I, too, do not see how someone could have problems with reading Brave New World. Especially not a native speaker of English. Most of those around here who post and aren't native speakers seem to say it - "I am from Spain and am studying English" or something of that sort. These people, I can understand if they can't quite comprehend the subtleties of the way English is written. It's alright - I study Spanish and I'll probably never understand Don Quixote thoroughly without help. But, there is no excuse for someone who grew up listening to this language being used and learning the language themselves not being able to read this book. Now, were we talking about Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter" I would understand. That's not quite modern English, and it's hard to comprehend it for most people on the first try - myself included. But, Brave New World is in pretty plain English. It doesn't take that much of an analytical mind to be able to look at it and say, "This is depressing. The Savage can't live there because he doesn't fit in, so he kills himself."

Is that logical conclusion just too much to ask of people? I just can't understand it. My brain is not malleable enough to wrap around the idea...

We need a better educational system, damnit.

Oh, and, before you ask me (seeing as I have just rambled quite a bit) I DO have better things to do with my life, but not right now. I suspect Nitpicky considered this a good thing to do with his/her/its life - amuse him/her/itself by pissing people off. Who knows - maybe he/she/it even had the better interests of this community involved. GASP! What a concept.

I have a feeling that person in question is not so much talking about the language itself rather then the theme. I agree, when you go in depth it is a rather hard book to grasp, however, one can remedy that by going online and finding the various essays and articles disucssing the book. There's even a book of essays written by Huxley himself that elaborates on the book's major themes.
On another not, I must agree with both Nitpicky and Alex. Good grammar and punctuation are always important when trying to get your point across. Moreover, please, don't criticize people for correcting your grammar in a post without punctuation, correct spelling, or grammar. It really just proves their point and makes you look unintelligent, despite your actual mental level.
