The Picture of Dorian Gray is quite a fascinating story. It gives one things to dwell on. But nevertheless, the book might seem like a bore. Oscar Wilde is really a great author, and there is no reason for saying anything else. Comparing him with Tolstoy is a mistake. The only thing they have in common is the writing of books, and that's hardly nothing. I wouldn't say that his a genius, but possibly genuin.

You don't stop breathing because you can't see the air. Right?

he is a genius as im sure he is the only man who will ever fully comprehend what he trys to say in dorian gray...... the sybolism of the yellow book and the sybolism of james vane. if you think you understand WIlde through his book then go on and read his preface. it made me realise the depths at which a man can think.
his preface is what changed my perceptions.
i should say Oscar's preface are to me what Lord Henry's influences were to Dorian Gray.

Oscar Wilde is an incredible writer, just from the standpoint that he is still relevant today.
