Hi

Are you all native speakers?

I have been reading your posts long time

Now I finally encourage myself to try to take part in your group

Frankly, i just a English learner, although I read a lot but all of them were Chinese versions.

I become a international student and study in New Zealand.

I am eager to know something about taste and interest in philosophy, religion and literature etc of Westeners.

I hope we will communicate different personal opinion on such things and
be friend.

thank you

by the way

quotation is fine to a language learner
to some degree it's easy for me to get into the heart of language
and enjoy the most concise and meaningful language, and however
sometimes it's harder than a complete novel, If you know English man is unable to laugh at a traditional Chinese joke.

some one can help me ?

Hi Stavrokin, no, as far as I know not all the members here are native speakers, I sure am not. You can take part in any discussion that interests you, it makes the topics more lively. I agree, quotations may be good for a language learner. I used to practise my pronountiation (and I still do, but less) by listening to English songs and films in English with Czech subtitles (though now that I know the language better I must admit that the subtitles are sometimes way off). Well, I've never heard a Chinesse joke, so if you'd like to, you could post one classical here or send me a private message, it's up to you and the other members, if they're interested in hearing (okay, reading) some foreign joke. That would be an original topic and it might work... See you around.

hi,i am a chinese too. :)

and i can take one joke for example to show you foreign guys that you really won't enjoy except for knowing chinese. :P

one guy is talking about his wife with a friend. This friend said to him:your wife is perfect except for her long neck.
He replied:good neck won't be short.

the most important point of this joke focus on the last sentence,in chinese, the last sentence is written in an idiom whose meaning in english is good times don't last long, for the word "times" and the word "neck" in chinese is homophones.and there are a lot of chinese jokes come from homophones.

well,i know there are also many english jokes of homophones, maybe what i have said isn't match the original meaning presented by stavrokin.
but this is a part of trouble.

hope it is an illustration too.
