Ethan Frome reflects upon life and love in situations that, yes, nowadays may seem foreign to us but the lesson really stands through time. How many of us have loved and either lost or could never be with their perfect piece? Wharton's use of language and symbolism perfectly blend to accentuate the heartache that was so familiar to her, and to us all.
