Overall I thought the book was moderately good. I have to agree with the other people that there is a theme of irony. Still, this book seems to be somewhat of a rip-off of Romeo and Juliet. Two people fall in love, and since they can't find a way to live and love, they try to kill themselves to eternally live in happiness. The plot, in that area, was somewhat unimaginative. I personally have read other books that I find a little more interesting than this, but for a short read, it meets standards. Edith Wharton also has a nice writing style. It lets you know somewhat her opinion, but she doesn't just say it out loud. Sort of a double meaning. Anyways, that's all I have to say. I'd give it a B average.
