That is exactly what I thought after reading the book. I reviewed other literature my English class has covered, and I realized that 99 percent of it is depressing! It is strange how so many great books have sad endings. I suppose that is what makes them great, the fact that their endings are so unexpected yet very possible. It is also true that Ethan had no good relationships. I truly enjoyed this book, though I didn't realize it until spending almost 3 hours doing answering a series of questions on it. It is deep-in the slang sense of the word.

The reason good books don't have happy endings is because in real life there are no happy endings.

Honestly, I loved the diction in this book, but the story was unbelievably depressing. I have an essay due for this book soon, too. The story I found very interesting, but something that I didn't want to read. In school, we always read books about depressing subjects, but I think it would be okay once in a while to read a story with a happy ending. I'm a little confused about how to feel about this book, sometimes. All I know, is I'm glad that I don't live in Starkfield. It makes you feel thankful for what good relationships you have. Ethan had none.
