At the age of 64, "Siddhartha" has been a part of my life for nearly 47 years. The first two reads were required reading in H.S. and college. Frankly, being a jock football player these readings were just that, "required". There stirred, however, memories of Hesse's words until my subsequent readings, which were voluntary. Through the years, this little book has been in my small library and has guided me through several periods of personal growth. Perhaps in this lifetime I may never really be "awake", but Siddhartha and his river has, indeed, cleared the way for "thinking" and for the wisdom I feel may have been gained. As I grow in spirit and in years, the words and messages in this little book become clearer. "Love" truly is the way of the Universe even for an old conservative like myself!
