I thought overall that this novel was just o.k. The thing about this book is that it is based on a religous figure that already had his life written about and discussed. And Herman Hesse in composing this novel did not hold true to the life that Siddhartha lived. He left his village not on a simple quest of just the knowlege he yearned for he left to know the true knowledge of what suffering was. Buddha was also born into royalty around 500b.c. And also in the novel the characters spoke of Siddhartha's born mother to be still alive but in reality Siddhartha's mother who's true name was Maya Maya had died not longer after his birth. I feel that if Herman Hesse was to turn the beliefs of a religon into a novel he should of at least held true to his life.
