Upton Sinclair's style is often times criticized and I'm hear to join the long list of criticizers. I found the beginning of The Jungle extremely boring and hard to get into. Sinclair spent all his time rambling on about the disgusting habits of the meatpacking industry. Then he tried to shove in the bit about Socialism at the end. I felt this novel lacked emotion and depth. It is something that should be found in a newspaper box at the dollar store rather than on the list of high school criteria. Sinclair was all facts and no feeling. If the story is going to be told through the eyes of immigrants than we should be able to see what the whole family thought of America, not just Jurgis. Sinclair exposed the corruption and nasty working conditions but was it really his place. Something are better left to reporters.
