I thought it was a good book. I'm in the 11th grade and have to write a paper on it, due in March. Yes, the first chapter was horribly boring, but the rest is good. The "Socialism commercial" at the end is, to say the least, a bit drab. I'd only reccomend it to someone who could stick it out and get through the slow parts. It just takes so long to get into it. Also sometimes I got tired of how much bad stuff kept popping up. I know it's about hard times and hard life, but it was sometimes as conflict-prone as a daytime soap opera.
