The Jungle was a true eye-opener for a foreigner like myself. I had already heard about the terrible conditions under which people lived at the time in American history but The Jungle was so well-written that you can actually imagine living the horrible lives of the immigrants at the time. It is a horrible, thrilling, exhausting experience to read the book because you almost feel that you are living the life of Jurgis and his poor family. But the book is so smashingly well-written that it is absolutely worth your while. Read it!
