This just occured to me.

Is it right that the forum should have an area for discussion devoted specifically to the bible, but not for the texts of any other major faiths?

Would it be a good idea to change this board so that it is designated as a place for the discussion of other religious works like the Koran or the Bhagavad Gita?

I haven't got any axe to grind here but I just thought I would mention it in the interest of social inclusion/exclusion-type-issues.

Well, I'm quite interested in learning about various other religious texts, so I'd definitely give my support to a couple new sections. The only thing I can think of is that we'd be slightly less likely to have knowledgable people give their views on such things. After all, the site's in English, and most of the English speaking world falls under the realm of Christianity and Judaism, compaired with Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism.

Any Jews in here? I admit my complete ignorance of Judaism.

my grandmother was jewish, and my aunt is.
i know a few jews, and a little about their rites and customs, but not too much. personally, i don't really practice much of any faith...i suppose i'm more of an agnostic. but ah well, nobody's perfect

Well, as Luther said, faith alone suffices. :) I apoligize fore quoting him, as he was a rabid anti-semite, but the I love that quote and I think it transcends his personal attitudes.

The reason there is a Bible forum is because we have the Bible on the website.

I do plan on adding the Koran and probably the Torah & the book of Mormon to the website, I want to make a whole religious texts section, I just haven't had the time. Plus, not being as familiar with those texts, its harder to think of how to index them. When I add those I'll rename this forum to religious texts.

I'm not at all religious myself though, so I'm not trying to purposely exclude anyone. I'm just too busy to add the works.

Oh.. the Old Testament is Jewish you know - so the Bible atleast partially covers Judaism.

LOL! this is hilarious..... maybe we aren't being sensitive to other religions....

I think that we aren't being sensitive to other authors by letting Shakespeare and Orwell have their own special places whereas all the other authors are just bunched together... we should create a thread for each one of these authors.

;)

The reason that Shakespeare, the Bible, and Orwell have their own special places is because they are the topics most commonly discussed. It has nothing to do with discrimination, bias, or any other words thin-skinned people like to use.

I can understand not having the time to add stuff, so this comment is strictly hypothetical, and directed at imthefoolonthehill.

Perhaps if more people had the opportunity to read about and understand other religions, they would also be among the most popular topics. Perhaps you, too, are fairly thin-skinned if you felt so strongly about convincing us that you were obliged to post a message about it.

nope. I am not offended or being thin skinned... but it DOES sound as though someone is a bit defensive....

About me posting about something: whenever I see something illogical, if I have time, I post something about it...

"Perhaps if people had the opportunity to read about and understand other religions"?

Certain religious groups, such as the Muslims, could easily make their material available to the masses. Instead, they choose not to 'corrupt it' by translating it into another language....

And who knows? Maybe it would be talked about and discussed....

Look, if someone wants to put up the Koran online, I don't mind... it doesn't bother me....I wouldn't mind reading it, either (if its in English)... just to see what says....

However, it is not logical to put something up and immediately establish a thread about it for discussion... If people want to talk about it, they can do so in the literature forum... and if enough people want to talk about it, I am sure Mr. Admin will give it its own little place.....

It is also illogical to think that it is morally wrong for a person not to put up a certain book or text on his or her privately owned web site.

I think the demand is low for such works as "Bhagavan Gita" and the "Koran".... I also think it would be absurd to put something on this web page with a very low demand simply in the name of fairness.

By the way, can some enlightened fellow tell me what on earth the "Bhagavan Gita" is????

I'm sorry... but I can't figure out if that is a compliment, an insult, or just a random comment.

I'M BACK...k...

Consider this...the Bible is considered a piece of recorded and proven correct history, philosophy, poems, songs, prayers, adventures, genological indexes, archive, prophecy yet to come and LITERATURE! Now, I'm not putting down the other religious texts but very few of those actually claim to be all of those. How many fossils have been found on top of a mountian? How many fossils have beed descovered in the middle of a desert? How many wars have raged b/c of Cain and Able and thier decendents...Isreal and Palistine? How many people shake in fear of the word Armagedon?

Even if you do not believe that the Bible is true the book of Job is filled with philosophy. There are beautiful poems and songs in Psalms, Proverbs, Song of Sol. and scattered throughout the book. Exciting, heart stopping and cleaver stories are embeded inside is "religious" book. Think about it. Many people around the world consider the Bible a great piece of literature. I'm not saying that the other texts could be too...but I am saying that the Bible is sometimes ranked up with Sophocles, Shakespear, Aristotle and other great names.

Hello, I am new to the sight, however I believe that this sight should cover all religiouse texts, it would be a valuable tool and a step towards peacfull relations between people of many different backgrounds. 8)

Yes, now that you just mentioned it in that way I think that the Quran and other religious texts should be available here regardless of its popularity. How are people meant to be exposed to them otherwise? They wouldn't become popular in the first place, if they aren't easily accessible.

Especially as Islam is so badly misrepresented and misunderstood by our arrogant Western world.

I was discussing religion with a friend of mine, who happens to be a druid. I have been talking to people I know of many different religions and trying to find out what religion means to them. I know alot about the Roman Catholic religion, but I am interested in other peoples beliefs. I am trying to understand what religion means to me... 8)

A druid to the best of my understanding is a follower of the druidic faith, they believe that all of lifes questions can be learned from nature. ;)
They are a non violent group and generally are not heard of.

Some of them go to stonehenge and some believ that they are the followers of the people who built stonehenge.

Some of them even dress like Getafix out of the asterix and oblix comics :D
