Lens Cap

It's hard to be
a gifted believer,
endlessly hopeful.

To look into the telescope
at night in the dark
and see the brilliance
of the sky.

Upon seeing this,
one feels spellbound
silently staring down
the black hollow tube.

Only to realize
the lens cap
is still on.
