View Full Version : A Hotel in Florida

In the stunned heat of
a day in July
A woman is leaning from
the fifth-floor window
vodka at elbow
she watches the evening
undressing before her

she checked in 2 days ago
her breathing has changed
from panicked
to shallow
to normal

across the highway a heron
standing on one leg
is lost in thought
letting the world go by
as it must

she carries the vodka to bed
lifts the glass and drinks
listening to the electric buzz of insects
tires humming over concrete
planes moving through time zones

it is the time to kill time
lying back on the bed
she lights one up

the stillness of a hotel painting
looks placidly her way
sensing the evening shadows
lengthening across the room.

Beautiful poem! Enjoyed your ability to paint with words, Tony!

Thanks. It's getting really quiet on the forum. Just got off off the "Poetry" page on Facebook. It's really awful. All of the 'special interest' groups on facebook are awful. Crazy clickbait. Dumb posts. Wish we could get some more migration back to here.

You are right, Tony. Me too. I am now on WLF too, but itīs a very different vibe.

The technical continuous log out is also a problem that discorages users, specially Newbies.

Good poem!

I find, regarding the technical issues you guys are talking about, that if I click the "stay logged in" box, that that solves the problem you guys are talking about. But the newbies may not be aware of this. And that may be discouraging new people. I think you guys are right.

I am on WLF. Can members post poetry on there? (I don't see a thread for posting poetry)

You captured it succinctly sir. Well done.

Atmosphere and surroundings are so important, even if the human activity of transporting a g&t is minimal.

I'm glad I'm not the only one finding it bloody quiet on Lit Net. When I originally joined it was jumping!!!!

lol. We read... we write... we encourage... we feed back... as WolfLarsen might say: we feed on each other and chum the waters :)

Enjoyed the tension, and waning thereof, of your poem tonywalt. Great photo !

Ta ! (short for tarradiddle),
