Bloomsday, June 16, 1904, was on a Thursday. I was a bit surprised about that. I would have thought it was a Friday. They did not do much work and they went drinking and to the red light area before going home in the early hours. They did not do much work on Thursday, and I expect they did even less on Friday.

It used to be commemorated here at the only pub of São Paulo, I ever heard of.

I think Leopold Bloom must have taken the day off or pulled a sickie. Perhaps he did the next day too. I did not think people had much holiday or sick days back then. Stephen Deduaus may have gone to work. I think he goes to the school he teaches at in the morning, and he is not mentioned much in the afternoon. He was a young man, so maybe he can get drunk late on a Thursday night and still get to work on time on Friday morning. I think people generally worked half days on Saturdays back then.
