This was a great novel. I enjoyed and savoured every little description that Hugo gave. The descriptions of Paris, and the atmosphere of the novel were so good and developed that I never once questioned the realism of the setting. I believed in the sorty. It felt so real, as if I were seeing, hearing the story unfold before me. Rarely has a novel aroused such compassin towards its characters as this novel did. The ending was tragic, yet touching. It was truly a well crafted novel. It has prompted me to begin to read Hugo's other prolific novel, Les Miserables.
