Wrong turn

Hmm, poor reception
I'll have to rely on my own sense of direction.

Im pretty sure I've made a wrong turn.
I think I've made this turn before.
If I recall,
This road goes for some miles before a turn around.
[I don't have time for this.]
The radio is scratchy
"You've lost that loving feeling... Gone, gone, gone"
I remember this song, it's an oldie,
but still relevant.

Of course there would be construction!
Detour
25 miles per hour
If I could only just turn around.
This road has been in need repair
I hope it will be better when this is all over.

Well, isn't that a beautiful sunrise
One you could just lose yourself in,
or find yourself in.
I forgot how much I loved it here.
I remember running through those silver fields
crunching shards of winter frost
and balancing on the clear creek's glass,
right over there,
laughing as my feet plunged in.
Towering trees, lost in leaves, your hand guiding me.

"Gone, gone, gone... Woh a woe ah"

I'm going to be late.
I'm running low on gas.
What if I run out before I get back?
or
What if I just run over that cliff edge?
Plenty of time when
You never turn back.

Don’t want to go on but found myself reading it again. There is a sub story of loss though buried threatening to emerge and lead to the end of the poem. At least that’s how I read it with the guidance of the song and the memories. Proper great poem Shadowlight.

The thing is Shadowlight I don’t like reading poetry that much. There was a time there was a regular crowd on here, some good, but would get in the habit of complimenting people you like. To be honest a lot of the time I was reading out of loyalty rather than interest. Not all the time. But. Can’t be denied that activity and dare I say standards have dropped here in recent years for what ever reason. Myself included of course. Your poem above grabbed me. I wanted to read on. Not just felt I should. It was multi layered. It was relatable. It interwove real life of the sat nav and the journey with the deeper undercurrent. For me it was something I read on here and proper enjoyed. Guess you got that by now.

I've been coming on here for a long time Jerry, I know how you feel. There are so many people I miss who used to share here: PrinceMyshkin, DarkMuse, JBI, qimissung, etc. It is so wonderful when I see the works of those who I recognize over the years still here...you, Pompey Bum, MystyrMystery, miyako, tailorstately, Hawkman,etc Im sure Im missing quite a few. LitNet may not be what it used to be, a thriving forum bursting to the brim with an exchange of poetry, ideas, and deep connections. Surely, it has slumped, but it still a place people come to. Maybe not everyday, but when they need it, and for many that is enough. But for you, I think you want more than that, than what Litnet can offer in terms of kinship/friendship/involvement and that is why you have a hard time struggling with what happens to everything...inevitably, everything changes. I think that that sometimes makes you feel dissatisfied with this place and the standards you set for it. I hope you can find more of what you need in your life Jerry, and that this wont seem like a distrusting crutch. That itll become a place you can appreciate again.
