In a novel packed full of French history<br>You will find a most riveting story<br>Of a convict and sinner and saint<br>Lover Marius and Fantine the faint,<br>But to find the drama is difficult<br>You must page through pages of the occult<br>The language puts me in a pinch<br>And the politics are only for French.<br>Whole chapters of only description<br>And then chapters of only discussion<br>But to see a miserable kid<br>Rescued on Christmas, or mid<br>The underground Paris, a gamin<br>Speak French slang (and he's really slammin')<br>Or the wolf-like policeman, Javert<br>Who's obsessed with law like a pervert<br>Or the saintly outlaw, Jean Valjean<br>Who over Cosette may fawn,<br>Or to see the Paris sedition<br>Just read an abridge edition!
