it can be hard to remember that the 1800's were the 19th century, just as it's hard to remember what time it is in japan once america goes on/off of daylight savings (my brother teaches english there). so, big deal. i think it's fantastic that you read this book. i picked it up in my 30's and have yet to finish it (bored back in russian society away from the war...) if you still check this website: kudos!

Hey, I m an eight grader and read the book, at the begining I thought I was the only one in the world who was reading it, but then I saw how wonderful it was, and wondered why I didn t know anyone who had read it. It s such a cool book!

I am a ninth grader and started reading this book one month ago. I found the book to be unbelieveably realistic and it has helped me grasp what life was like in 18th century russia. This book is a great work of fiction and a beautiful examination of a person's place in history, society and the world.
