To Laura and Pinklady,
I understand that at first Huck Finn seems so boring and tedious with the southern dialect but after looking at what it really stands for you must admit it was revolutionary for its time- a time where Negros were considered inhuman. To appreciate this book you must not read it as a mere story but put it in context and appreciate the characters, especially Huck whose friendship with Jim is heartwarming.

i dont think you understand the plot and its underlying meanings. the reason you did not understand the book was probably because you read it superficially with out actually observing the ideas that the author is trying to make

It is almost conceivably possible that maybe, just maybe, humor wasn't the main point of the book...you think?

What do you mean by no plot? are you sure we were reading the same book? The plot was there and full of action. How many books have you read that have so many killings? I haven't heard of many. ((well besides Horror books))

Id say that some people could enjoy the book because they thought about what they were reading...

The only reason you think this book is stupid, IS because you are not Intelligent Enough to understand the book.

Its is also almost conceivably possible that maybe, just maybe, were the most hailed 19th Century American Novel to jump up and smack them in the face, that they wouldn't realise it.

Seriously.... how could you NOT like this book!!!! it's awesome, a total part of american history and a great example of American southern society and trying to break free!!! If you find the end boring you obvously didn't give it much thought... Huck returns to society... something which we, as humans, can NEVER leave... if you had red the book a little more in depth you might have appreciated the huge amount of symbolism ... obviouysly you do not have an open enough mind to read this kind of book... stick to you magazines n comic books...

well you're dumbd to agree with kat. You people who hate the book have no point to your arguments. Y'all suck at spelling too. And what's wrong with a little southern dialect? It shows such great realism on Twain's part, and how much more sophisticated than you numbnuts will ever be.

To say that this book had no plot gives me an idea that you do not have enough intellect to critique it. The story and its conflict, as one response already stated, is a true revolution of its time. The underlying themes of the story make it a true masterpiece. The symbolism and satire used with the duke and the king is completely mastered. Just because you did not enjoy reading a classic book that requires some thought does not mean that you can disregard it as a pointless piece of unnoteworthy literature.

Huckleberry Finn is a classic. It is not stupid, and you must be fairly stupid yourself to have missed the plot. And perhaps it would help for you to look up the word humor?

Or perhaps you took the notice in the beginning of the book too seriously "persons attempting to find a plot in it will be shot." Understandable. I can assure you, Mark Twain is long dead, and it is not likely that he will come back from the dead to kill you. You have no need to worry.

Well of course you don't understand the humor of Twain's b/c you're too stupid to realize that Twain didn't live in our lifetime. The humor is more subtle than humor is today.

I HATED this book...there is no plot and the ending is soooooooooo incredibly stupid..plus the book is so boring it took me 5 months to read because i read before bed and it put me to sleep every night after i had only read about 2 pages..but then again, maybe I just do not get Mark Twain's idea of humor??
