I read Jane Eyre during summer before junior year for my english class.. When i picked up the book I was completely disappointed for it being such a thinck one. However, when i started reading it, I couldn't put it down. Sure not all the chapters are interesting, but the overall message of the book (at least for me) is really great. So who says that a women has to be tied down to marriage? and who needs a perfect life? without one, a person can still be happy... I liked this book but since my classes occupy much of my time, I was even more disappointed in not being able to read it the second time. I got that widh again this year as a senior. For the IB program, I'm required to write an Extended Essay of at most 4000 words of any topic of our choice. I chose this book. I then read it for 2 more times. The more i read it, the more I like the book and the more i feel like i can relate to Jane's feelings.
So for those other people who can't seem to understand the point of the book, I suggest you to read it another time. I really enjoy this book. It is very romantic in its own way.. and I admore Jane... even though there are times that I also feel like strangling her for being so proud. But in a way, that is one of the reasons why Charlotte Bronte is such a good writer. Either way you look at it (whether you hate it or not) she is able to grab your attention and make you feel strongly about something.
so that is all I have to say.. and oh!.. i actually do NOT like Wide Sargasso Sea at all... although i do not hate Bertha ( Antoinette) as much after I read this (since I read Jane Eyre first).
